In February 2015, a group of corporate members of our esteemed Society, The NSE, who are also registered with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), met and resolved to promote the creation of a specialized Division of the NSE, that would bring together all ICT Engineers practicing in Nigeria. This initiative was advanced and further consolidated by formal overtures extended to the various sub-sectors hosting ICT Engineering Practitioners, including: Telecommunication; Satellite Communication; Broadcasting; Aviation; Transportation; Security; Defense Maritime, Oil & Gas amongst others.
It is for the above reasons, that on July 4, 2016, a formal application was made to the NSE Council for the creation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division as NSE specialized Division for ICT Engineers. This was aimed at further strengthening the study and practice of ICT Engineering in Nigeria, promoting welfare and motivation, and deepen the gains of the NSE.
The seven (7) primary objectives advanced for the division are: 1. To bring together all ICT Engineers in Nigeria and facilitate standard professional ethics in ICT services delivery; 2. To advance the interest of the Nigerian Society of Engineers with respect to ICT, and contribute the quota of ICT Division to make the NSE more influential in ICT policy formulation, regulation and general practice; 3. To promote, protect, encourage and maintain high standard for ICT study in Nigeria; 4. To promote, protect and maintain a high standard of practice among members; 5. To protect and enhance the welfare of ICT Engineers in Nigeria; 6. To promote the culture of Best Practices and place the Nigerian ICT Engineering practice in the World Class; 7. To promote capacity building of ICT Engineers in all ICT sectors.
In the meeting of July 13, 2017, NSE Council approved the establishment of the Nigerian Institute of ICT Engineers, as a Division of The Nigerian Society of Engineers. Having received the approval, the Institute was inaugurated on October 23, 2017, by the then President of the NSE, His Royalty, Engr. Otis Anyaeji, FAEng, FNSE.
